サンフランシスコから流れてきた流れ者のフランクは、安食堂を経営する男ニックと知り合い、彼の店で働き始める。フランクはニックの美しい若妻コーラと恋に落ち、2人はニックの殺害を計画する。しかし、その試みは失敗し、フランクはロサンゼルスで仕事に就くが、命を取り留めたニックに連れ戻される。コーラは再び夫殺しをフランクに持ちかけ、二人は自動車事故に見せかけてニックを殺害するが・・・。
