「嵐が丘」と呼ばれる古い館があり、そこに養子として引き取られた孤児ヒースクリフ。彼はジプシーの血を引く野生児だった。館の娘キャシーと知り合い、次第に2人は恋に落ちてゆく。愛は身分の差を越えるはずだったが、年を重ね成人した2人には別れが待っていた。キャシーは金や名誉といった欲にむしばまれ、地元の名家リントンの息子エドガーと結婚してしまう。傷ついたヒースクリフは米国へと旅立つ。金持ちとなり帰国したヒースクリフ、そして失ったものの大きさに気づいたキャシーは・・・。
